"Fatal System Shutdown"

That's what my computer declared when I tried to switch it on the other day. It's been complaining for a year now, about how it's too old, can't handle the memory, is slower than slugs on a bad morning, etc. And now it's gone and killed itself. Buh.

All my stuff is on there ... writing, drawings, photos and unfinished colours. So now unless we can save the D drive, which I have no idea whether it's possible or not, everything's gone. I feel as if I should be more depressed about this, but strangely, I'm not. I guess it's a good chance to start off fresh.

But NaNoWriMo is starting next month and Project December the month after, which I definitely cannot do without my own computer. I'm using the family computer at the moment, and well, I just can't save stuff on this thing without feeling as if my siblings will open all my files. Which is five hundred kinds of "NO!".

And Ramadhan ends tomorrow and we're supposed to celebrate (eg. stuff faces, get money, see relatives) but my immune system has decided to take a break - not as permanent as my computer, I hope - but it looks like I can't drink anything sweet and fruity without coughing like a mad thing. And I can't taste anything. :( *sniffs and blows into 600th piece of tissue*

To top that all off, my finals are the week after next week, and the only subjects I have a chance of scoring in is ... English and History. My science subjects are lost to oblivion. Nyuhnyunyunyu.

On the other hand, I watched Gossip Girls on YouTube, which cheered me up considerably. [girly moment] Chace Crawford, I have to say, is most delicious. [/girly moment]

And now, I bid thee farewell. Until next time, after which I hope my dad will take pity on me and get me a new computer (or laptop. I'm not fussy. :p ). Take care, all.

Book-references and the month of fasting.

I've had a trainee teacher in my English class for the past few months. She was a lot of fun, and definitely different than the other teachers. I mean, she has a copy of the One Ring which she wears around her neck! Tarsha and I went into a sort of fangirlish excitement when we saw it. xD And get this:

She has a scar on her forehead.

Shaped like a bolt of lightning.

:O

And she's never read or watched HP or LotR. She does know that her scar is like Harry's though. After months of wondering, I finally got the guts to ask her this morning, which happens to be her last day teaching us. And she got it in a car accident when she was sixteen.

I still can't get over the fact that she's got a lightning bolt scar. So cool. We're all definitely gonna miss her.

Other news, it's Ramadhan month! So everyone's fasting ... and the bazaars are opening up all around the country, making food a million times tastier than usual. Yum. We're gonna start baking cookies next week. Maybe I'll take pictures and post them here. We'll see. :)

Whut.

They're making the Maximum Ride movie with performance-capture film, or whatever it's called. Y'know, like The Polar Express, and Monster House.

And I'm all: "WHAT THE FISH." D: I wanted to see some real people do some real (istic fantasy/sci-fi cool special effects) flyin'!

*curls up in the corner and sulks*

S.M.U.C. Character List

  • Sep. 10th, 2007 at 9:02 PM
Me
I need to write out all the characters I own. One day, I hope to link their names to coloured drawings of them. For now ... just names. So I can keep track of them all. Some of them have full names, some don't, some have weird lettering, some aren't ...

Blue for boys.
Pink for girls.
Green for anything else. :p

Yes, most of them appear to be male. Hmm. Nevermind, I'll let the phsycologists analyse that any deeper. Will probably update this List in future.

Pets!

So I've decided to post some pictures of the Golden Trio. Strange that I haven't posted any of the cats, so I'll be throwing some of them in too. :)

I wanted to post some new pics of Sparky, since that he's way bigger now ... but I can't find him and we didn't take many pictures of him other than his first weeks. Meh. Maybe another day.

And here's a fox to look at! :D

I think I'll go re-read Pride and Prejudice, just for the heck of it.

Coming out of exile, I'm here to throw a few crazy comments around the dear ol' eljay before I vanish again.

Firstly, yes I was grounded. Still am, but my mum let me on to join the HP mania. So I'm typing this as fast as humanely possible. :D

SPOILERS GALORE.

And now, on to ....

There are so many more things I wanna say but ... I guess I'll reread the book and write them next time.

Have fun with the book everyone. I sure did.

PS. I can't believe it's over. *sits down, staring in shock*

Don't expect to hear from me after tomorrow.

However, if you do hear from me after tomorrow, that means that I'm one lucky duck. If you're wondering, Open Day is tomorrow. Where my mum will meet my teacher and discover the horror which is my report card.

Hoo boy.

Other than that, life's pretty good. School is fuuuun. We're having a carnival on Saturday, and every class has their own stall. My class decided to go Pirate-y. We'll be wearing bandanas and we've got an awesome banner (which is half-done ... but still awesome.) to hang up. I'll be deejay for the Song Dedication Booth held by the prefects, and charity concert is on the same day.

That's gonna be one heck of a Saturday.

I'm three-quarters through Pendragon: Pilgrims of Rayne, and I can't help but feel that Bobby is just asking for trouble. I have absolute no idea whether he's doing the right thing. *flaps arms with worry*

I feel like a bucket of cotton candy.

I just had the most ABSURD amount of fun at school today. Remember the weird tensiony-smiles feeling? It vanished. It's like everyone's sugar high or something. Campaigning started today, and it was insane. There were banners everywhere, flyers, posters, and all the nominees were handing out little badges or ribbons.

I've got four different items with me, a ribbon badge, a flag, an armband and a maroon ribbon. There're four others (ribbon, a huge-mongous ribbon badge, a sticker and a little sticky laminated card) from the other nominees. I'm planning on collecting every single one of them. :D Everyone at school, the ones wearing blazers especially, looked like walking advertisement boards. It was so funny.

And tomorrow marks the start of the speeches! Fun fun fun.

And, I bought Pendragon: Pilgrims of Rayne. I'm only a few chapters in, and it's ... ok, I guess. The thing I don't like about Pendragon is that there are a wee bit too many preachy bits. The author is telling us, not showing. So that kinda spoilt my fangirl-induced glee. But it's getting a bit more 'showy' as I read on, so I hope it gets better.

Theory, plan, etc.

I tried re-drawing fanart after having a good long look at random pictures from teen magazines. And it's still not coming out the way I want it too. So, I've reached a brilliant conclusion.

Brilliant, I say.

So, I'm going to take my pencil. I'm going to put it to the paper and be happy with whatever the heck sprouts out from the lead tip. It's genius. Instead of moaning and groaning about every single flipping thing, I'll just draw, finish it and fix whatever needs fixing and ... yeah.

The plan's not foolproof, but it's good enough for me. I mean, I could still be a total dingdong and be unsatisfied.

Or I could just accept it.

Questionable logic, but for now, I'm going to try it.

Funny tension-disguised-by-smiles feeling still floating around in the air. Especially around the nominated prefects. Campaigning starts next week, and everyone's waiting for the ... plunge. One of the girls was crying just now; I have no idea why, but it had something to do with the elections and exam grades being handed out. Everything's sorta clean and bright at school - I can't put my finger on what exactly it is.

I'm just full of weird descriptions, I know. But just my overall view of what school feels like right now. *shivers* I'll be glad when this is all over.

On another note, every class was given a plant to look after for the rest of the year, a sort of competition. Whoever is still holding a living, non-wilting plant, then well, you win! My class' plant is ... well, I dunno what species it is. The next time I'm allowed a camera to school, I'm taking a picture of it. We named it Melon, and somebody stuck a sticker onto the plastic pot reading: "Hi, my name is Melon."

Which is pretty cute. None of the other classes' plants have names. Maybe we're just weird that way.

The fanart is coming along ... uh ... well, I dunno what to say. CURSE YOU HEAD ANGLES. And my sudden disability in drawing accurately-proportioned facial features. And my inability at drawing the same character twice.

I'm throwing in the towel. I admit it: Yes, I do need a reference picture. *mumbles incoherently and shuffles off to look through DeviantArt stock photos*

Calm before the storm, my foot.

It's raining outside.

It's been pretty cloudy lately, and that's a really nice change from the humidity of Hong Kong and Singapore. Both of which I have visited in the past three weeks. I'm a bit amused at how both places seem similar in my head. Huh. I am also very amused at the pirates leaving Singapore in a flurry of smoke. Silly Jack-Monkey.

Yeah, I watched Pirates. The third one. Was awesome. Don't feel like reviewing it though ... bit tired.

Something weird's going on, I just know it. Everything's all smooth-sailing. Everyone seems ... nice. My drawings are turning out OK (not OK enough to be uploaded yet though) and I've started cycling again, which feels good. But I'm so freaking paranoid! I mean ... Open Day is next week. My parents will be seeing my teachers. What is this, a TV drama? Calm before a storm, my foot. I'm both relieved and scared out of my mind. And I'm not the only one. The whole student body is nervous. Funny sort of tension-disguised-by-smiles feeling hovering in the air.

Guh.

Anyway, I've been drawing a lot of Maximum Ride fanart. Oh, and another thing ...

Fang/Max = <3

I'm trying to draw a vaguely shippy drawing. 'Vague' very loosely meant. (It's really hard to draw people kissing. Not as easy as I thought. D: Still working with head angles.)

In a few days, I will have some nice fanart to show. Really.

Revenge of the Fruit Drink.

  • May. 28th, 2007 at 9:40 AM

I've finished packing for the trip today. I left my book in the plastic bag I bought it with, so I went to take it out, and -

Well, I bought a drink on the day I bought the book. It was a mixed fruit drink. And since that I took the underground train back home, we weren't allowed to bring drinks on board. So I kept the drink in my plastic bag. I took it out soon afterwards, but I didn't realise the ... damage it had wrought inside my plastic bag. xD

So I open the bag and this awful stench filled the room. I pulled everything out, frantic. All I could think about was the book. My sketch book? Drenched and smells of rotten fruit. So I'm going to buy a new sketchbook when we get to the airport.

As for the actual Maximum Ride book, it was still wrapped in plastic and I'd never felt so happy about plastic wrapping before. I pulled the wrapping off because that stunk too and the cover was all sticky. The pages of the book were fine. The back cover was a bit damp with a faint trace of Eau De Squished Fruit. But overall it was fine so I packed it real quick into my travelling bag before I forgot.

The flight is at six, but we're leaving for the airport at three. Can't wait.

See you guys next week. Take care! :D

Feels awesome.

I bought Maximum Ride: Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports (I love that title. It rocks. xD) today.

Why? I'm going on holiday on Monday. To ... guess where? Hong Kong. I'm going to Hong Kong. I'm going to Disneyland. Good grief. I've never been to Disneyland in my whole entire life! *is excited like woah* So I bought the book to keep me busy during the flight, which'll be at night. It's mighty thick, so I'm hoping that it lasts until we come back on Saturday. I even bought a new sketchbook so I hope that when I come back on here next week I'll have some nice sketches to show.

:D

Yesterday was Teacher's Day and guess what I got to do? I was the emcee during the performances! It was loads of fun and I really understand what all those T.V. presenters must feel. It's an awesome feeling. The first time my partner and I ran onto the stage the whole hall started cheering like mad since that they were waiting for like, twenty minutes. It gave me a real boost.

When I ran backstage after introducing ourselves and the opening act, I tried to put some papers into my folder but I couldn't. My hands were shaking like crazy. So I just held it with the folder before anybody else could see how nervous I was. xD And after everything was over, everyone said that I was great. That people actually listened to me (now if they'd do that when I'm on prefect-duty ...). I felt a like a million dollars right there.

Ps. Could somebody describe to me just what shade is olive skin? I asked my mum, but she wasn't very sure. She said that it's probably something like my skintone (I'm darker than her). Somebody please enlighten me? :D

One great big feathery family. :D

I haven't had this much fun drawing fanart in ages! Reading the books ... I'm getting so many drawing bunnies. Fun fun fun. :D

I bought the second book, Maximum Ride: School's Out Forever. And as much as I know that something will surely go wrong, I've jumped onto the shipping wagon with Fang/Max. I mean, they already treat the younger bird-kids like their own as it is. xD And Max is like the overprotective mum and Fang's the practical and quiet dad. Haha.

There are spoilers.

There will be more in posts to come. xD I'm just getting warmed up. Hohoho.

On the topic of love interests and couples making goo-goo eyes at each other, Sparky and Krash came home late for breakfast this morning. Usually they come home around seven in the morning after a night of doing whatever it is that cats do. Krash came home around what, eight? Sparky came home way later.

Guess the reason.

The hired help went looking for them and came back with an interesting story to tell. Both Sparky and Krash ... my little baby kitten boys, the ones I bottlefed when they were tiny bundles of fur. They were with another male cat. And a female one.

It's kitty-mating season, everyone. And my little boys have grown up. =\

Sparky still drinks from a bottle though. If he turns out to be a dad, I'll ... guh, he's only seven months old! And acts like a moody teenager. Seriously.

Flock together. Ee-zackly. I couldn't draw the boys of the flock and leave the girls out. Sooo, here they are!

Left to right, top to bottom: Max, Nudge and Angel. Max I'm satisfied with, I love how Nudge turned out and Angel ... Angel took me four times sketching to get her right. Argh. She's OK now, I just wish I'd shaded her hair a little more.

We had one more drama practice at school just now for Teachers' Day on Friday. It was hilarious. We did this thing where the cast were given different personalities but were asked to recite the same lines. The main character, Kak Siti, was to be a gangster, the little boy Iqbal had to be an alcoholic and Mrs. Zarina the strict and uptight entrepenuer was a perky cheerleader. Josie, Kak Siti's friend was Hermione. As in Granger. xD

Anyway, the drama is about how Kak Siti comes to terms after her husband Jeff's death. So one of her lines was "Jeff died in a road accident. [mournfully] So I made this painting out of love for my husband."

Transformed gangsta-style, it came out as "So Jeff died in a road accident. Yeah. Whatever. So I made this painting. For my gay partner. Yeah." Seriously, I haven't laughed so hard in ages. And then Josie was walking around lecturing everyone on the damaging effect of air-conditioners on the environment. And Mrs. Zarina was all "OMG lyk that so pretty!" And Iqbal was staggering around with an imaginary bottle of booze.

:D

Art and a bunch of feathers.

Guh. Fandoms. I go through them faster than a packet of potato chips. My first one ever was Harry Potter, then a brief obsession of Lord of the Rings. Then followed Artemis Fowl, Pendragon, Warriors. At this point, I fell in love with comic books. DC comics in particular, just Teen Titans mostly. And then I found Alex Rider, and that's what introduced me to the, well, awesomeness of spy stories. This lead to CHERUB ... in fact, I'm still on a spy story-kick. Next in line, Skins! Part of my love of good character developement.

So now what? I'm back to a mix of good characters and fantasy. Lovely stuff. Another thing I love best about Maximum Ride ... all the characters have good descriptions. Very handy when it comes to fanart. Not so when the movie comes out and they end up looking different. Sigh, ouch. But ah well. Live for the moment, eyh? All these fandoms over the space of four years ... phew.

I'm just happy that I can picture the characters enough to make fanart in the first place. I've tried CHERUB fanart, but I have no idea how to draw them. I can only draw James, Lauren and Kerry. Oh, and Rat. But other than that, it's fuzzy. :(

So. Fanart, ya'll.

From left to right, top to bottom, Fang, Iggy and the Gasman.

Colouring Fang was a bit annoying, I tell you. What's with all the dark colours, man! I don't know whether I like how he turned out. Iggy I'm satisfied with. As for the Gasman ... I based his expression on the one my little bro Nazim keeps putting on when he's trying to be cheeky. I feel like giggling everytime I look at him. xD

Colouring the wings were too much fun. Not bad for a first try, I think. I'll be drawing the girls soon. ^^

Ps. The Love Today song by Mika is so hilariously cute, I'm dancing inside! :D

I helped my mum clean up the study room yesterday and found a folder with a stack of my old kindergarden stuff. So I decided to post one of my drawings. Somewhere between the ages of five to seven. It's a family of ... well, I'm not sure actually. They could be rabbits, or maybe bears. Huh.

The reason I've been missing lately is due to mid-year exams ... I think I'll get a fairly low grade for my Science subjects, and might fail my Add Maths, but I think I did quite well for all the language papers and History. Will just have to wait and see. Oh, and I drew this on my History question paper:

Bunny. :D

Anyway, I didn't get a chance to read any books during exam week so the moment the last paper ended, I pulled out my newest book and began reading. As of now, the book count on my bookshelf is 122 books. Weehee. Anyway, the book was Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment by James Patterson. It's the first of a series, and I finished it in a day. Cool book, kept me on my toes. It's about a group of six kids who escaped from a lab and are on the run. But being bred in a lab has its ... ahem, side effects. Every one of these kids have a pair of wings each, sprouting out of their backs. And that's not the only thing they've got going ... each and every one of them eventually develop new powers. I don't know too many details about this, since that I haven't read the second book yet.

Ooh, and they're actually making a movie. Yes, my only super ability, it seems, is choosing books which are most likely to be turned into movies. My mum has this wickedly cool thing where she knows exactly when to change a channel during advertisements and change back just in time for the show to start again. Weird, but handy. I get to choose movie-books. Fun, fun, fun. :)

I don't mind it being made into a movie ... it's just that the actors will be younger than me and while Fang's actor better be good-looking, he'll end up younger than me. Gah, I'm slowly leaving the times when all the reasonably good-looking kid actors are older than me. Now they're either my age or younger. The ex-kid-actors aren't so kiddish anymore.

Hmmm. I think I've ranted long enough. :)
